The introduction of Numerical Control (NC) and the use of programmable automata (PLC), has made it possible to use mechanical presses to produce small and medium sized batches of pieces economically, adapting production to consumption and maintaining lower stock levels.

In particular, we must mention the revolution that the application of Numerical Control has meant for strip feed devices or transfer device. The long set-up times of the old mechanical press systems have been drastically reduced thanks to the introduction of new digital electronic technologies.

Advantages
- More flexible use of the presses thanks to shorter set-up times.
- Better quality of pieces produced and longer life of the machine used, thanks to a more effective control of the press devices and the production process itself.

On a press, set-up time for each new job has two main components:

1st Preparation of the machine to receive the die. See "Autoset".

2nd Change of the previous die for the next one. See "Fast die change".
